The Supreme Court has issued an interim order staying the implementation of Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet’s decision to appoint officiating chairman in the Press Council.
A single bench of Justice Deepak Raj Joshi on Wednesday issued the interim order citing that Minister Basnet’s decision was erroneous.
Last week, the Ministry had decided to appoint Nawal Kishor Yadav as the officiating Chairman of Press Council.
Kishor Shrestha was already appointed to the post on the basis of seniority. A writ was filed at the SC challenging that the Ministry does not have right to appoint the officiating chairman.
