NC CWC meeting: Koirala floats proposal for candidate selection criterion

The proposal was floated by NC General Secretary Shashanka Koirala during a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Friday. Koirala’s proposal also suggests forbidding the party candidates defeated in the local level elections from contesting the upcoming elections to House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly.
If Koirala’s proposal is endorsed, the leaders elected from PR system will have to contest the elections under the first-past-the-post system, and the leaders defeated in the local level polls will not get the ticket for the upcoming polls.
The party has also decided not to grant ticket to the party leaders who faced music for working against the party in the local elections.
General Secretary Koirala has tabled a proposal to finsalise the list of election candidates under the PR system by October 11.
Saying that the leftist alliance under the leadership of CPN-UML was formed to foil the national unity and democratic process, the party has put forth a proposal to form a democratic alliance to counter the leftist bloc.
Nonetheless, the process to form a democratic alliance has already been started based the decision of party’s central work execution committee.
Meanwhile, party senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel said that the leftist alliance would invite crisis in the federal democratic process.
