Agitating doctors to continue protest throughout Dashain
Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has renewed its warning to continue its protest programmes including halting of all forms of medical services except emergency ones from all hospitals across the country citing the government’s failure to make any concrete decision to address the demands of agitating doctors.Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has renewed its warning to continue its protest programmes including halting of all forms of medical services except emergency ones from all hospitals across the country citing the government’s failure to make any concrete decision to address the demands of agitating doctors.
In a press statement on Tuesday, NMA General Secretary Dr Lochan Karki said the NMA was forced to make this undesirable decision during one of the biggest Nepali festivals Dashain due to government’s apathy towards their demand.
Terming the government as ‘insensitive’, the agitating doctors accused the government of putting public’s health at stake.
“We want to inform the public that our protest is not just concerned towards the interests of doctors but has direct implication on the health of all people,” read the statement.
The statement has further warned of intensifying the protest in coming days to make the protest a decisive one.
The umbrella organisation of Medical and Dental Doctors in Nepal has also called on all the health professionals across the country to support the protest.
The doctors are protesting against the Cabinet decision of September 18 that had proposed a law which requires the attending physician to pay compensation for harms on patients if investigations reveal the doctor’s negligence in the treatment process.
