A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Nagdhunga, on Thursday confiscated 28 dead goats from a bus heading towards Kathmandu.
The dead goats were seized from the bus (Na 5 Kha 1683) during a regular security check.
Police said that they have taken bus driver Yuvaraj Pokharel and his helpers Dipesh Dhungana and Raju Bagale under control.
Inspector Rishiram Ghartimagar of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Nagdhunga, said that 28 out of 41 goats the vehicle was carrying were found dead.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Livestock Development has also intensified its monitoring with the start of Dashain festival.
A team comprising Minister for Livestock Development Santa Kumar Tharu and the Minister of State Goma Kunwar inspected the goat market at Kalanki today.
Following the observation of the market, Minister Tharu instructed the goat traders to categorise the goats into healthy and sick ones and sell them accordingly at fair price during the Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals.
As per the Livestock Act 2055 and Regulations 2056, a person trading in or distributing dead goats faces fine from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 per goat.
