Attorney General Raman Shrestha has stepped down from his post. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday.
Speaking to Kantipur after turning in his resignation, Shrestha said he delayed in resigning from the post at the request and consultation with PM Deuba.
Shrestha has set a new precedent by working as a legal advisor to the succeeding Prime Minister even after erstwhile Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stepped down. He is credited for developing the skills of government attorneys, making preparations for systematising prosecution of legal cases, and building a coordination mechanism between police and government attorneys.
Similarly, he had led an agitation of boycotting bench in protest against the failure to include government attorneys during the appointment of High Court judges. He had also played an active role in registering an impeachment motion against former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
