KP Oli 'surprised' by NC’s election results

“I am quite surprised by how the NC emerged victorious in many places at a time when the party has become so unpopular,” said Chairman Oli, talking to media persons in Biratnagar on Saturday morning.
The former prime minister made it clear that the NC won many seats in the second phase of local polls because of his party’s failure to convince the people.
He claimed that his party would win more than 50 percent seats in the third phase local polls scheduled for September 18.
On a different context, the CPN-UML chair said that the constitution amendment bill registered at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat would not be endorsed at any cost.
The amendment proposal registered without the consent of opposition party would not be acceptable to his party, he added.
“The parties should move ahead by holding discussions on the issues including the amendment proposal,” he said, adding, “The ruling parties have been trying to amend the constitution prior to the conclusion of local level elections which is against agreement signed with the opposition parties.”
“I will see how NC and Maoist Centre will amend the constitution within this month,” leader Oli challenged.
Moreover, he accused the ruling coalition of conspiring to put off the provincial and federal elections.
Saying that it was beyond the dream that the tenure of Legislature-Parliament would be extended, he said that the parties should arrive at consensus on holding all the elections within January 21 instead of focusing on other petty issues.
