CPN-UML candidate Menuka Kafle has been elected chairperson of Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa district through lottery after a tie with Nepali Congress candidate.
Kafle was tied with Hukum Singh Rai of Nepal Congress as both the candidates secured 8,275 votes in the local level elections.
The final result was announced through lottery after both the candidates mustered equal votes, according to assistant election office Raj Kumar Shakya.
With Kafle’s victory, the UML candidates pull off victory in the posts of chair and vice-chair in the rural municipality.
Benu Sapkota has been elected vice-chair of the rural municipality. She defeated Dipa Gautam of Nepal Congress by securing 9,418 votes. Gautam accumulated 4,912 votes.
