Two Nepal Police personnel were killed after a police van was swept away by a landslide at Kalikhola along the Narayangad-Muglin road section on Friday.
According to Nepal Police sources, the deceased police personnel have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Nischal Tamang and Constable and driver Dipak Kumar Maskey. They were in the police van (Ba 1 Jha 1390) of Muglin Area Police Office that was returning after clearing an earlier landslide at Kalikhola when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, other two police personnel—Sanjiv karki and Lil Bahadur Chepang— are also missing after the landslide, informed Muglin Police Inspector Yogendra Hamal. Search and rescue operation of the missing has been hampered as the landslide has not stopped, said Inspector Hamal.
Likewise, the same landslide has swept away a truck (Na 5 Kha 7827) en route to Narayangadg from Muglin. The driver jumped out of the truck as soon as the vechicle was hit by the landslide while conductor, Sanu Blon Tamang, was rescued with injuries, informed Chitwan Police Chief SP Deepak Thapa.
Vehicular movement along the highway section has come to a complete halt after the landslide and vehicles plying through the route have been stopped at Bharatpur, Narayangadh among other safe places.
