The second phase of polls initially slated for June 14 was postponed for June 23 and against put off for June 28 in a bid to bring RJP-Nepal, an agitating Madhes-based party demanding amendment in the constitution to increase local levels in the southern plain, on board the local polls.
A UML meeting held on Tuesday stressed on conducting the elections on June 28 as decided.
“Our meeting calls on the general public to be aware of the conspiracy to push elections under any pretext,” read a statement issued after the meeting. “CPN-UML has strong reservation over rescheduling the elections yet again.”
The meeting protested non-political activities conducted across the country under the banner of RJP-Nepal.
The meeting condemned the act of vandalism, arson, destruction of public and government property, damage of vehicles, physical assault and misbehavior to government employees against the political parties including CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), and SSFN, among others.
The meeting also called on the agitating RJP-Nepal to stop all its protest programmes that affects election environment and asked it to participate in the local polls.
