NC fields mother-daughter duo for deputy mayor in two Jhapa municipalities
Nepali Congress has fielded a mother-daughter duo for the post of deputy mayor in two municipalities of Jhapa district in the upcoming second phase local level elections slated for June 28.Nepali Congress has fielded a mother-daughter duo for the post of deputy mayor in two municipalities of Jhapa district in the upcoming second phase local level elections slated for June 28.
The party has put forward Tara Devi Bhurtel as the deputy mayor candidate for Bhadrapur municipality while her eldest daughter Durga Bhurtel has been fielded for the post from Mechinagar Municipality.
Both of the candidates are learnt to be close to NC former General Secretary Krishna Sitaula. Bhadrapur is the hometown of leader Sitaula.
This is the first time in the district that two members of same family received the tickets to contest the poll.
The NC has fielded Ganesh Pokharel for the post of mayor in Bhadrapur municipality. Pokharel and Bhurtel are known for their proximity towards NC leader Sitaula.
Bhurtel was also recommended as a candidate from Proportional Representation in the earlier Constituent Assembly. However, she was not selected. Later, the party had assured her of giving a prominent responsibility during the local level elections.
Likewise, daughter Durga Bhurtel has been an active member of the Nepali Congress since the student movement of 2036BS.
