CJ Karki resumes office, forms 9 benches excluding herself

Meanwhile, justice Gopal Parajuli who had taken the role of acting Chief Justice after the registration of impeachment motion against Karki took a leave of absence today.
The Supreme Court on Friday issued an interim order directing the Legislature-Parliament to put on hold the impeachment motion filed against the Chief Justice and allow the latter to return to work.
Karki, who stood suspended following the registration of the impeachment motion as per the constitutional provision, returned to the court on Friday itself.
As many as 249 lawmakers from the two big ruling parties—Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre)—had registered a motion at the Parliament Secretariat on April 30 seeking to impeach Karki, charging her with infringing upon the executive’s jurisdiction and nurturing factionalism in the judiciary.
