Speaking to the Post after a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Chairman Oli said that interference with the judiciary is unacceptable.
“I have given an ultimatum until 3 pm today to the Prime Minister to withdraw the impeachment motion against CJ Karki,” said Oli, “PM Dahal said that he will respond to it before 3pm.”
The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament has been scheduled for Thursday.
Likewise, Chairman Oli said that he was astounded by the silence of Nepal Bar Association among other legal service organisations over the matter that has affected the independence of the judiciary.
Similarly, earlier today, UML spokesperson Ishwar Pokharel, speaking at a press meet organised at the party's headquarters, had said it was wrong to introduce such a motion all of sudden, just for the reason that the government did not get a ruling in its favour.
The motion was registered last Sunday at the parliament with signatures from a total of 249 members of parliament representing the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre).
On a different note, General Secretary Pokharel said the alliance in the upcoming local elections was based on the local needs and issues and to ensure victory.
