The EC has also urged the government to declare May 14, the day when the first phase of elections is scheduled to take place, as public holiday in these three provinces.
EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said that as preparations for local polls need to be carried out in schools which have been fixed as polling centres, shutting down them for a one-week period is necessary.
He said that it was the second time that the instruction for schools closure was issued to the government. Earlier, the instruction was issued for closure of schools and colleges for entire country when it was planned to be held the elections in a single phase on May 14.
