A massive fire broke out at Chitayepuruwa in Daduwa Village Council-1 of Banke district on Friday.
According to a preliminary investigation, as many as 48 houses were destroyed in the blaze.
According to police Inspector Bir Bahadur Thapa of the District Police Office, Banke, the fire had started all of a sudden from the middle part of the village.
The incident occurred at around 4 pm.
Nepal Police personnel and villagers are struggling to douse the fire fuelled by strong wind.
A fire engine deployed from Nepalgunj has not reached the incident site due to poor road conditions.
