Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that his party is ready to hold local level elections in two phases if the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha expressed its readiness to take part in the local polls.

He said so while addressing a mass conference at Rangasala in Kamal village council of Jhapa district on Tuesday.

Saying that that there is no alternative to elections to take the country on the path of prosperity, Deuba urged the agitating Madhesi Morcha and main opposition CPN-UML to move ahead by endorsing the constitution amendment proposal.

As the entire country is gearing up for the elections, the NC leader urged the Madhesi Morcha not to run away from it.

“People want elections to establish their rights,” he said, adding, “Madhesi people also want the elections.”

Moreover, the former Prime Minister said that some forces are hatching conspiracies to foil the elections by raising the issues of nationality.

NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel among others leaders had also addressed the conference.
