Absconding human trafficker lands in police net after 18 years

A police team deployed from the CIB arrested Bijay Kumar Tamang, 44, aka Bijaya Lama of Samundradevi, Nuwakot, from Samakhusi of Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Tamang along with his friends were convicted of selling a woman to a brothel in Mumbai, India in 1998.
They had taken the woman to India on the pretext of starting a clothing business. They had sold the woman for Rs 20,000.
The woman, however, had managed to flee the brothel and later filed a complaint against Tamang at the CIB in Nepal.
Tamang was sentenced to a 10-year imprisonment by the court in 2001.
He was on the run following the court’s verdict.
Tamang has been sent to the Central Jail in Sundhara to serve his sentence.
