Rights activists and civil society leaders of Siraha district have voiced their concern over a bill tabled in the Legislature-Parliament to amend the act on granting special perks and facilities to dignitaries including parliamentarians in the list after retirement. 

At a press meet organised by Human Rights Protection Centre Alliance, Siraha on March 21, human rights defenders and civil society leaders criticised the bill tabled at the parliament and urged the government to withdraw the proposal. 

Alliance Siraha Chapter Coordinator Ganga Adhikari said that it would be a brazen misuse of state coffer if the bill was amended allowing the lawmakers themselves to wishfully receive special state facilities after retirement. Adhikari further noted that it would be inept for the parliamentarians, who amended the Civil Service Act to remove pension of civil service employees, to adjust law to increase their benefits. 

Likewise, civil society leader Durga Prasad Mahato also protested the move to include lawmakers in the list of dignitaries and amend the law to grant special state facilities to them after retirement. 

"It was totally wrong to table bill in parliament in a way to provide state facilities such as monthly salary and allowance to lawmakers after retirement", he argued. RSS
