Two police personnel among four persons have been arrested on charge of smuggling timber in Bishnupaduka area, Dharan in Sunsari district.
The local people detained the suspected smugglers while they were loading timber on a Bolero jeep at Bhawani Than Community Forest on Sunday night.
According to Raj Bahadur Rai, the treasurer of the community forest users' group, policemen Khem Bahadur Kunwar and Ganga Limbu were detained along with Bibek Limbu and driver Nagendra Karki with the vehicle (Ko 1 Cha 6381) loaded with 19 cubic feet timber.
The accused and the vehicle have been handed over to Sector Forest Office in Dharan for investigation. Further investigation into the incident is underway, said the forest office.
