The Supreme Court has issued an interim order staying the implementation of Election Commission’s decision to scrap registration of Samajbadi Janata Party led by of Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Prem Bahadur Singh.
A division bench of Justices Gopal Parajuli and Prakashman Singh Raut on Friday afternoon issued the order in favour of Singh.
Earlier on March 7, 2016, the EC had scrapped the registration of 15 political parties including the one headed by Singh for not furnishing income and expenditure details of three consecutive years.
He had moved the court arguing that the EC had made the decision offensively though he had furnished the income and expenditure details.
