CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bhim Rawal has said that India should apologise for the death of a Nepali in firing by Indian security personnel at Kanchanpur.

Gobinda Gautam of Ananda Bazaar, Punarbas Municipality-8 in Kanchanpur district, was killed when India’s Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB) allegedly opened fire on locals at Nepal-India border on Thursday during an altercation over the construction of a culvert at the border.

He said so while taking to media persons in Dhangadi. He arrived here on Tuesday to inform about the party's Mechi-Mahakali campaign.

“This is UML’s official position,” he said, adding, “What would have India done if its citizen was killed by Nepali security personnel?”

The UML leader noted that national sovereignty meant the same for all.

“The government has kept Kailali and Kanchanpur in controversial districts to fulfil vested interests of Madhesi parties,” former Deputy Prime Minister Rawal said.

Moreover, the UML leader said that the government should focus on holding local level elections instead of endorsing the constitution amendment bill.

Saying that the need of the hour is implementation of the constitution rather than amending the constitution, Rawal warned that the country would plunge into grave crisis if the elections were not held on announced date.
