Five persons were killed and several others injured when police opened fire at protesters who allegedly wanted to disrupt the campaign in Rajbiraj, Saptari on Monday.
Defying the banda called by agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, the main opposition party organised the mass meeting at the ground of Bhutan Devi Higher Secondary School in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4 this afternoon.
Due to the UML’s campaign, the strike, however, had no effect in Hetauda.
Speaking on the occasion, party Chairman KP Sharma Oli warned that the behaviour showed by the coalition government and the Madhesi Morcha after the Saptari incident would be expensive for them.
The former Prime Minister said that the UML cadres have been facing security threat in Tarai districts after the Saptari incident.
“If the government could not ensure adequate security for UML cadres, we can ourselves arrange security for our cadres,” said Oli.
The Mechi-Mahakali campaign is not only of UML, but is the campaign of the whole nation, he remarked.
