Cadres of the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha clashed with the businessmen at Ghantaghar Chok in Birgunj on Wednesday.

The businessmen retaliated against the Morcha cadres after the latter assaulted a trader at Mina Baazar in Birgunj while enforcing the shutdown.

Ghantaghar area remained tensed for some hours following the incident.

The Rastriya Madhes Samajwadi Party Parsa district President Prem Babu Patel sustained minor injuries in the clash.

The local administration has mobilised a large number of security personnel in the area to avert any untoward incident.

Vehicles stayed off the road, educational institutions, financial institutions and industries remained closed in Birgunj today on the second day of the two-day Madhes banda called by the Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of the seven Madhes-based parties.
