The main opposition CPN-UML on Tuesday has demanded action against the guilty of Saptari incident. The main opposition CPN-UML on Tuesday has demanded action against the guilty of Saptari incident.
Three persons were killed when police opened fire to stop the cadres of agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha from disrupting a mass assembly organised by the UML as part of its Mechi-Mahakali campaign at Maleth in Rajbiraj of the district on Monday.
The party made such demand organising a press conference at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi of the Capital today.
The party has also urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to conduct a fair investigation into the incident.
Emerging from the meeting, party General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel claimed that the Rajbiraj incident was premeditated as the Morcha cadres had staged demonstrations and smeared black soot on the face of a UML leader ahead of party’s Mechi-Mahakai campaign that kicked off from Kakarbhitta of Jhapa on Saturday.
Though the party had already informed the government and the local administration to tighten security around the programme venue, he said that the incident occurred due to the sheer negligence of the authority.
The UML leader said that such kind of incidents would push the country towards uncertainty.
The party has said that the Madhesi Morcha should take responsibility of the incident.
Denouncing the government move to recall the Chief District Officer of Saptari and the district chiefs of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, the party said that such move has created enough room for doubt.
Though the party had put off the campaign for three days, the party clarified that it would resume from Friday.
