Gathabandan gives 7-day ultimatum to govt, warns of withdrawing support
The Sanghiya Gathabandan, a federal alliance of Madhesi and Janjati forces, has given a seven-day ultimatum to the government to roll back its decision to hold local level elections and to endorse the revised constitution amendment bill.

The government has announced to hold local level elections on May 14.
During a meeting held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the alliance has warned of withdrawing its support to the government if its demands were not met within the given timeframe.
“Sanghiya Gathabandan and Madhesi Morcha will withdrew support extended to the government if the demands are not met within the given timeframe,” said Gathabandan spokesperson Om Gurung in a press statement issued after the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Gathabandan has announced fresh protest programmes against the Saptari incident.
The Gathabandan has decided to organise demonstrations in district headquarters across the nation on March 9 and nationwide general strike on March 10.
Saying that grave human rights violation has occurred in Saptari incident, the Gathabandan has decided to submit memorandums to National Human Rights Commission, United Nations based in Nepal, International Human Rights Commission to drew their attention towards the incident.
Similarly, it has demanded martyr status to the deceased, compensation to their family members and treatment to those injured in Monday’s clash.
Three persons died and dozens injured when police opened fire to contain the situation following a clash with agitating cadres of Madhesi Morcha during the main opposition CPN-UML’s Mechi-Mahakali campaign.
The Gathabandan claimed that the Saptari incident was premeditated and orchestrated by the CPN-UML.
