Two hundred and seventeen packets of hashish, weighing 125 kg, were confiscated from a jeep with the Indian registration plate (BR 29 B 7141) during a security inspection at Ratomate Check Post while 62 kg of marijuana was recovered from a truck, also with Indian registration plate (BR 07 G 5340), from another part of the town on the same day.
Meraj Sah and Mithalesh Sahani of India’s Motihari was arrested with the hashish-laden jeep that was headed to Raxaul, India, Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Lama said.
Similarly, Manoj Kumar Yadav, also of Motihari, was arrested with the marijuana hidden in his truck.
SP Lama said the seized drugs were valued at Rs 3.5 million in the Nepali market.
Police said 14 Indian nationals have been arrested trafficking drugs in Makwanpur in the last three months. Eight vehicles with Indian registration plates were also seized.
Man arrested with brown sugar
NEPALGUNJ: A 22-year-old man was detained in possession of brown sugar from Jayaspur near Nepal-India border in Banke district on Saturday.
Dharma Raj Bam, a resident of Khin-6, Kalikot, was caught with 50 gram of brown sugar, said police. Bam was arrested while he was entering Nepal with the drug hidden around his waist.
According to police, the seized brown sugar costs around Rs 250,000 in Nepali market. Police claimed that Bam had been involved in drugs smuggling since long.
