The construction of Bheri-Babai Multipurpose Diversion Project has come to a halt after a Nepali worker, Devendra Khatri, was assaulted by his foreman, a Chinese national, for not washing the project’s vehicle.
The project, which is being developed by China Overseas Engineering Group Limited has employed several Chinese workers along with Nepalis.
The Nepali workers have announced a strike since Monday, demanding action against the foreman. They have also pressed the company to offer them raise and allowance.
Minraj Dhakal, senior divisional engineer of the project, said the person who assaulted Khatri was fired after the incident and that the company has requested the agitating workers to the negotiating table to discuss their demand.
