Rupandehi police has arrested eight suspects in connection to the murder of Durga Tiwari, the district chairman of CPN-UML aligned Youth Association Nepal (YAN). The suspects— Basanta Bahadur Chapagain, Rojan Gurung, Sagar Thapa, Rishishwor Kumar, Buddhi Sagar Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Khemananda Bhattarai and Angad Tharu Dhakadhahi— were made public on Sunday, more than two months after the incident.
Four other suspects are still at large. Police said the mastermind of Tiwari’s murder, Manoj Pun, the shooter known only as Raju, the firearm supplier, Tul Bahadur Sinjali, and one Shyam Gurung were on the run.
Investigators have concluded that Tiwari was murdered over “personal vendetta” and that there was no political rivalry.
Superintendent of Police Rabindra Dhanuk has said there could be some other people involved in the case.
The investigation is still underway and we hope to capture the fleeing suspects shortly, he added.
Neupane’s attacker identified
Police have identified the prime suspect in the attempted murder of Kul Prasad Neupane, the vice-president of Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
A group of armed men had tried to gun down Neupane at his shop in Siddharthanagar Municipality-6 on December 6. SP Dhanuk said one Ballu Tiwari, from the bordering Indian town of Sunauli, was involved in the failed murder bid.
