Police rounded up 18 supporters of activist CK Raut from Majgawa in western Rupandehi district on Saturday.
The arrest was made after Raut's supporters clashed with police in the district. The supporters had gathered to protest the arrest of the activist at Majgawa Higher Secondary School, police said.
Police had requested them not to conduct such programme in the district and had tightened the security in the district. Police had to fire 15 rounds of tear gas shells to contain the situation.
The incident site is some 15 kilometers from district headquarters. The situation has returned to normalcy in the evening.
