Govt briefs diplomatic community

"We told the diplomatic community that we will garner consensus on constitution amendment and head towards its implementation," said Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat in a press conference organised in the Ministry after the briefing. "The constitution will be amended keeping in view the concerns of dissenting sides," he said.
Ambassadors and acting ambassadors from 24 Nepal-based missions including from China, India, the USA, England, Qatar, among others, were present in the briefing. Also, Nepal-based UN commission, representatives from EU and Saarc Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
The Foreign Minister said that government was preparing to announce the elections dates. According to the minister, he had informed the diplomats that government is preparing to undertake the challenge of conducting elections within one year.
Minister Mahat also briefed the diplomats about post-earthquake reconstruction activities in the country.
The foreign diplomats had raised queries on government's plan on conducting elections, reconstruction activities, human rights issues, transitional justice process and government's inefficiency seen in the capital expenditure.
