NEA supervisor among 16 held for electricity theft

Police have arrested 16 people including a supervisor of Nepal Electricity Authority on charges of electricity theft from different locations in the Capital on Sunday.
The culprits were arrested for their alleged involvement in tampering the electricity meter to show less consumption of electricity, among other misconducts. Of the arrested, 11 are NEA staffers.
Suman Shrestha, supervisor of NEA’s Balaju division, Bhagwan Pandey, former supervisor of Bhaktapur division, NEA former maintenance officer Tal Bahadur Karki, eight meter readers, are among those arrested.
Others arrested are businessmen and industrialists, who were involved in electricity theft by collaborating with NEA staffers.
