The joint meeting on Saturday decided to close the border for 48 hours during the February 27 election in the Indian state. However, vehicles carrying patients and those of other essential services will be allowed to cross the border following a security check. The meeting also agreed to conduct a joint security patrol in the border area to control possible criminal activities during the polls.
Chief district officers, police chiefs and heads of national investigation department from Kapilvastu, Dang, Bardiya and Banke districts and officials from the bordering Indian districts attended the meeting.
Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bohara said the security officers also decided to share the names of suspects involved in criminal activities in both the countries.
The Nepali side urged the Indian authorities to help control cross-border smuggling and criminal activities taking place from the Indian territory.
