The government has extended an invitation to Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to visit Nepal in February.
A Cabinet meeting recently approved the visit of the new Indian army chief.
Gen Rawat assumed office as the chief of the Indian Army on December 31.
Brigadier General Tara Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for the Nepal Army, said Gen Rawat’s visit to Nepal has been approved and that the itinerary would be made public soon.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who is also the supreme commander of the Nepal Army, will confer the honorary title of the chief of the Nepal Army on Gen Rawat amid a function to be organised at Sheetal Niwas.
Two army chiefs of Nepal and India have long established tradition of exchanging the honorary title. During his visit, Gen Rawat will also hold meetings with his Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand.
