The government on Sunday tabled the constitution amendment bill at the Legislature-Parliament despite resistance from the opposition parties including the main opposition CPN-UML.
Law Minister Ajaya Shankar Nayak presented the bill on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi amidst protest from the nine opposition parties. Opposition lawmakers chanted slogans against the bill during its tabling.
"House Speaker Onsari Gharti set an unprecedented parliamentary practice by allowing the ruling parties to table the bill. We will continue our protests," said UML leader Bam Dev Gautam.
Also, the Legislature-Parliament forwarded the impeachment motion against the suspended Chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki to the Impeachment Recommendation Committee.
As many as 157 lawmakers—107 from CPN-UML and 50 from CPN (Maoist Centre)—had registered the impeachment motion against Karki at the Parliament Secretariat on October 19.
Earlier today, a meeting of nine opposition parties had decided to continue House obstruction until the bill was withdrawn.
