At a time when voices are being raised against the party for not playing a proactive role in Parliament, President Sher Bahadur Deuba picked the main opposition’s supervisors for 12 Legislature-Parliament committees during the NC’s Parliamentary Party Working Committee meeting at Singha Durbar on Thursday morning.
A majority of the lawmakers speaking at the meeting were concerned about how the largest party was not able to play a decisive role in amending the Banks and Financial Institutions Act bill through the Finance Committee, which was on Tuesday returned by the government following widespread criticism over some of the controversial clauses of the bill, said Nepali Congress Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha.
Several bankers and economists had also denounced the bill that would serve the interests of “bank promoters”.
According to Shrestha, leaders also criticised the government’s “slow response” in post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.
