The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that its serious attention has been drawn to the general strike enforced by Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist.The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that its serious attention has been drawn to the general strike enforced by Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist.
“The strike has subverted the general public’s right to move freely and conduct their daily businesses,” read a statement issued by NHRC spokesperson Mohana Ansari.
“The commission calls on the banda enforces to make their protest programme peaceful and dignified. The commission urges the government to make arrangement for free treatment of those injured during the strike,” read the NHRC statement.
The constitutional rights body said it came across several incidents of arson and vandalism during the strike.
The people faced difficulties in their movement due to the strike while the shutdown of educational institutions and industries hit the students and daily wage earners hit the people hard.
Stating the strike crippled the normal life of general public, the NHRC urged the government and the agitating side to seek solution to the crisis through dialogue and talks.
