The faction of senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel was putting pressure on party President Sher Bahadur Deuba for the amendment to the statute. A meeting of the two sides at Poudel’s residence on Wednesday decided to amend the PP statute as per the provisions in line with the newly adopted constitution. The party is making preparations for a PP meeting on April 4.
The PP will make a proposal identifying key issues of statute that needs to be amended. “We have agreed to form an informal committee to prepare a proposal for the amendment,” said CWC member Bimalendra Nidhi, a leader close to Deuba. Along with Nidhi, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Gopal Man Shrestha reached Poudel’s residence to solicit the suggestions. The election for the PP leadership has been fixed for April 6, while the PP Working Committee poll will take place on April 8. “Both sides have agreed that statute of PP should be transformed into federal structures and making it inclusive as per the new provisions in the constitution,” Nidhi said.
Deuba and Poudel are vying for the PP leader. Poudel is pitching the principle of one man one post, urging Deuba to give up his claim for the PP leadership. Nidhi, however, sees slim chances of Deuba obliging to such a request.
