Govt to renovate six ancient cities
The government is planning to renovate six ancient cities across the country in order to conserve them and promote tourism.The government is planning to renovate six ancient cities across the country in order to conserve them and promote tourism. The six areas identified by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development for renovation are Janaki Mandir premises in Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City, Tansen Bazaar in Tansen Municipality, Dapcha Bazaar in Dapcha Kashikhanda Municipality, historical Simraungadh area in Mahagadhimai Municipality, Tokha Bazaar in Tokha Municipality and Khokana area in Karyabinayak Municipality.
MoFALD has allocated Rs3.33 million for each of the six areas through respective municipalities with the directive to spend a maximum of Rs1 million for administrative expenses and remaining for drafting a city renovation plan. The municipalities have to study ways to renovate or reconstruct monuments in the area, retrofit high value monuments, improve public spaces, manage festivals and promote tourism.
