214 kg hashish seized
Police seized a large cache of hashish from a jeep at Bharatpur-1 in the district on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Sahakul Bahadur Thapa said 214 kg hashish was seized from a Bolero jeep bearing Indian number plate. A police team led by Inspector Rugam Bahadur Kunwar seized the hashish from the vehicle parked at Diyaloroad, Bharatpur. The drug was hidden under the seat and roof of the vehicle.
A group of people who were travelling in the jeep had fled soon after seeing the police. SP Thapa said that they suspected something was wrong as the driver drove the vehicle in high speed upon seeing police at Ramnagar along the Narayangadh-Mugling road stretch in the district.
“We have identified the persons travelling on the vehicle. They will be soon be arrested,” said Thapa, adding that the smugglers brought the hashish from Dhading district.
Meanwhile, police arrested four persons in possession of a tortoise from Ratnanagar-12. The security personnel, in the guise of clients, reached the house of Lakhan Darai where the tortoise was kept for sale. Along with Darai, Raghunath Nepali, Gautam Mahat and Samir Devkota were arrested on the charge of tortoise smuggling, said police. The sale of tortoise is illegal in Nepal.
