The 13th Nepal-European Union Film Festival (NEUFF) drew to a close on Saturday with the announcement of winners at its closing ceremony.
The documentary film 'Dhye Dreams' won the title of the best in the Short Documentary Film Contest, and 'The Bull, The Cow, The Calf', directed by Swoyan Maskey Manandhar, received a special mention.
A total of 11 short films were selected for the festival, showcasing a diverse range of storytelling and talent. Among the officially selected films were 'Divination' (Aakhat), 'Hawaman', 'Kathmandu Monsoon', 'Makhmali Udaan', 'Let’s Talk Period', 'Rato Paccheuri', 'Sanai', 'The Mirage', and 'Whirl' (Phera). These films were screened alongside nine European entries.
Dr Joelle Hivonnet, deputy head of the delegation of the European Union to Nepal presented the awards to the filmmakers during the ceremony. Additionally, certificates of official selection were distributed to all 11 filmmakers, acknowledging their contribution to the festival.
The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal congratulated the winners and expressed gratitude to all the filmmakers who participated in the festival. A total of 52 short films were submitted for consideration.
Following its successful run in Kathmandu, the festival is set to continue its journey across Nepal. Screenings will be held in the Sudurpaschim Province at the Far Western University on April 10 and 11, followed by Lumbini province on April 15 and Karnali Province on April 19 and 20. This expansion aims to bring cinema to more regions beyond the urban centres.
