Kantipur Max to broadcast IPL
Xtreme Energy Drinks signs on as title sponsor; Laminar Tiles and Mangalam Pipes join as ‘powered-by’ partnersKantipur Max is set to broadcast the Indian Premier League for the second consecutive season, bringing the high-profile cricket tournament to Nepali television audiences. The 19th edition of the league, which debuted in 2008, begins this Saturday.
The opening match will see defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. All matches, including pre-match shows, will be aired on Kantipur Max HD 1 and HD 2, according to Kantipur Media Group.
“Our goal remains to bring major global sporting events to Nepal,’’ said Mahesh Swar, chief executive officer of KMG, at an event on Tuesday. We are already showcasing premier sports through Kantipur Max.” He added that while recent tournaments featured Nepali commentary, the IPL will be broadcast with English commentary.
KMG has secured major sponsorships for the broadcast. Xtreme Energy Drinks has signed on as the title partner, while Laminar Tiles and Mangalam Pipes are the sponsors. The agreements were signed by Sagar KC, business head at KMG; Sonia Rana, business head of Xtreme Energy; Shyam Khetan, head of Lumbini Ceramics; and Abhinav Churiwal, chief executive officer of Mangalam Industries.
Rana said the partnership reflects Xtreme’s commitment to sports, while Churiwal highlighted his company’s 17-year association with cricket. Suraj Singh Thakuri, chief executive officer of Kantipur Television, said the network is committed to broadcasting both domestic and international high-profile events.
Kantipur Max has previously aired the Nepal Premier League, Wimbledon and various domestic leagues.
