China-Nepal heritage event opens in Kathmandu
New cultural products promotion and sales centre launched as two nations mark 70 years of diplomatic ties.Post Report
Nepal and China marked the 70th year of their diplomatic relations on Tuesday with the opening of the “World Intangible Heritage” Himalayas Cultural and Creative Products Promotion event and the China–Nepal Cultural Products Sales Centre in Kathmandu.
The event, organised by the Nepal National Pavilion (China) and the Arniko Society, aimed to promote cultural cooperation and introduce heritage-based products from China’s Himalayan regions to the Nepali market.
Key attendees included Jeevan Ram Shrestha, president of the Nepal Olympic Committee; Wang Junfeng, third secretary at the Chinese Embassy; Arniko Society President Sushil Prajapati; and deputy commissioner of the National Information Commission Gagan Bista. Over 120 guests from cultural, business and academic fields participated.
Speaking at the event, Shrestha said cultural heritage helps people understand each other better and plays an important role in strengthening ties between countries.
Rabindra Shakya, president of the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal, said traditional crafts carry shared histories and can support local livelihoods if promoted well.
Chinese enterprises from Tibetan-inhabited areas showcased various products, while the Nepal National Pavilion introduced its new sales centre, which will operate as a permanent outlet for Chinese cultural items in Nepal.
The programme also featured the signing of cooperation agreements and a panel discussion on cultural innovation and market opportunities. Exhibitions and activities will continue in Kathmandu and Pokhara over the next week.
