Huawei officially launched their latest flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro during CAN Infotech 2018 and also showcased the new ‘Aurora Blue’ colour option for their popular midrange smartphone Huawei Nove 2i.
The Mate 10 Pro is priced at Rs103,000 and available in mocha gold colour variant only.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro’s claim to fame is that it is equipped with the world’s first AI (artificial intelligence) processor for smartphones with a dedicated neural network processing unit (NPU). Huawei is looking to usher in a new era of intelligent smartphones.
The company explained this bold move, “As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept but something that intertwines with our daily life. AI can enhance user experience, provide valuable services and improve product performance.”
Making all of this possible is Huawei’s own Kirin 970 processor that delivers enhancements for a faster, more customised mobile experience. The new Kirin 970 features an octa-core ARM cortex cpu, a 12-core graphics processing unit and the first NPU designed specifically for a mobile device. The Kirin 970 also supports AI-powered intelligent photography with new dual image signal processors.
The specialised NPU, combined with Huawei’s innovative HiAI mobile computing platform, means the Kirin 970 delivers 25x better performance and 50x greater energy efficiency for AI-related tasks, compared to four Cortex-A73 cores. The Huawei Mate 10 Series is also the world’s fastest smartphone supporting super-fast LTE connectivity and download speeds. The device comes with the world’s first dual 4G SIM support and dual VoLTE connections.
Huawei is also opening the Kirin 970 processor for third parties to create new and imaginative AI applications, reads the press release.
Multimedia consumption on the new Huawei Mate 10 Pro is set to be an immersive experience due it’s to massive 6-inch FullView OLED screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels to deliver an eye-popping 402 ppi.
According to the company, the smartphone has been sculpted to an art form, with a 3D glass body, beautifully and symmetrically curved on all four sides for an ergonomic hold. This all leads to a reflective band design on the rear of the camera to highlight another major feature of the Mate 10 Pro, new dual Leica cameras.
Huawei has once again partnered with Leica—a renowned German company famed for its high end optics and cameras—to co-engineer the dual-lens camera for the Mate 10 Pro. They combine 12-megapixel RGB + 20-megapixel monochrome sensors, optical Image Stabilization (OIS), dual lenses with the world’s largest aperture of f/1.6, AI-powered Bokeh Effect and AI-powered Digital Zoom.
AI is also working in the background to make photos taken with the Mate 10 Pro look like it was taken by a professional, from choosing the optimal camera settings to ‘AI Motion Detection’ for clearer and sharper pictures.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro packs an enormous 4000 mAh high-density battery which supports fast charging. It is also IP67 water and dust resistant. On the software front, the Mate 10 Pro comes with the latest version of Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
