Honda has finally brought the iconic and legendary 1000 cc motorcycle, Africa Twin to Nepal. 

For those looking for a motorcycle capable of going off the beaten road or in some cases, where no roads exists at all, the Honda Africa Twin will do so with aplomb.

Prices for the Africa Twin starts from Rs2,550,000 and is available at Wing World Showroom, Teku in Kathmandu. The motorcycle is manufactured in Japan.

“So far we have brought in 5 units of the motorcycle and we have had a few buyers,” 

said Mukesh Shrestha, manager of Wing World Showroom, “In Honda’s stable, the Africa Twin is the company’s first 1000cc off-road motorcycle available in Nepal”.

The Africa Twin is the elder sibling of the CRF 250L and as such it is also known as CRF1000L.

The motorcycle is powered by a 998cc twin cylinder, four stroke engine that is liquid cooled and fuel injected that produces a head snapping maximum torque of 92 Nm and 95 horses to cover distances quickly.

Weighing in at just over 231 kg, the Africa Twin is not a light motorcycle. But the weight gives the motorcycle a proper ‘big bike’ feel and will be stable while cruising at high speeds.

Honda released this motorcycle for off-road enthusiasts and explorers who want to take their motorcycle and explore Nepal. It joins Honda’s stable of big bikes such as CB 650F, CBR 600 RR and CB 500 in Nepal.

With a wheelbase of 1574mm and a ground clearance of 250mm, it is equipped to handle rough roads and more.

Even though the Africa Twin has a high ground clearance, it has one of the lowest seat height seen on similar motorcycles at 871mm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission with a trick up its sleeve.

A unique feature found on the Africa Twin is dual clutch transmission (DCT). This feature is usually seen on Formula 1 cars and allows the rider to ride the Africa Twin as an overpowered scooter if you select Full Auto mode.

There is also the option to select Manual mode, where you can change gears paddle style, using just your fingers instead of using the gear shifter. 

Even though the motorcycle was made for off-roading, it still has a modern look to it. It is packed with features such as riding modes, switchable dual channel ABS and a digital instrument console which includes speedometer, tachnometer, fuel indicator, gear position indicator, odometer, 2 trip meters and a clock.

Honda claims the Africa Twin has a fuel economy of 16km per litre of petrol. This means that once the 18 litre tank is filled up, the motorcycle can travel 288km before needing to refuel.

The iconic motorcycle was first introduced in 1988 and continues to adapt to fit the demands of today’s riders.
