East, Mid-west regions get resources boost
The budget for this fiscal year has substantially increased resources allocation for the Eastern and the Mid-western Development Regions under the District Level Annual Development ProgrammeAccording to the National Planning Commission (NPC), the Eastern Region has been allocated Rs 19.65 billion, up 20.99 percent compared to last fiscal year. The Mid-Western Region got Rs 18.19 billion, up 20.94 percent.
Allocation for Far-Western and Western Regions has been increased to Rs 18.19 billion (up 18.86 percent) and Rs 17.83 billion (up 15.48 percent), respectively.
However, the Far-western Region got the lowest allocation of finds.
The region, which has the lowest number of districts among the five development regions, has traditionally been receiving the lowest resources.
Budget allocation for the Central Region increased 10.35 percent to Rs 27.36 billion—the highest among the development regions. However, the share of the budget allocation in the region dropped to 28.85 percent from 30.43 percent in the last fiscal year.
The overall increase in the resources allocation is in line with increased size of the annual budget.
Of the total national budget of Rs 618.10 billion, Rs 94.84 billion has been earmarked for development activities in five development regions. Last fiscal, the figure was at Rs 81.49 billion.
Except for the Central and the Western Regions, there has been a slight increase in the share of the budget for other regions.
Like always, the Eastern region came second, while the Mid-Western region came third in terms of budget allocation.
In terms of district-wise distribution, Morang and Jhapa topped the list from the Eastern Region, with Rs 2.09 billion and Rs 1.91 billion, respectively. Saptari (Rs 1.66 billion), Siraha (Rs 1.62 billion) and Udaypur (Rs 1.49 billion) are among other districts receiving higher allocations.
In the Central Region, Kathmandu received the highest Rs 3.41 billion, followed by Dhanusha (Rs 1.81 billion), Sarlahi (Rs 1.78 billion), Lalitpur (Rs 1.68 billion) and Chitwan and Rautahat with Rs 1.65 billion each.
In the Western Region, Rupendehi and Nawalparasi topped with Rs 1.94
billion and Rs 1.62 billion, respectively.
In Mid-Western Region Dang and Bardiya and in the Far-Western Region Kailali and Darchula received big budget allocations.
