Ganga Maya Adhikari, who has been struggling for years demanding justice for her slain son Krishna Prasad, met with UN Resident Coordinator Valerie Juliand on Wednesday, as a beginning of her initiative to appeal the international community for justice.

Krishna Prasad was murdered by suspected Maoist rebels in Chitwan on June 6, 2004. Ganga Maya launched a series of hunger strikes since 2013, demanding that the perpetrators are prosecuted. Her husband Nanda Prasad died while staging hunger strike in September 22, 2014; he had gone without food and water for 329 days.

Ganga Maya requested Juliand to support her campaign for justice. She told the UN representative that Nepal government was unwilling and unable to provide justice to the conflict victims, and it was the duty of international community to take necessary steps in this regard.

Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, Ganga Maya’s legal advisor, said the Juliand responded positively to Ganga Maya’s concern and assured to do the needful to support Ganga Maya’s cause.

In the two-hour meeting, Adhikari also expressed her wish to visit the UN headquarters in New York and England to share her story with the world.

Ganga Maya wants to visit New York to appeal to the UN for justice, while her reason to visit England is to let the country’s government and its people know that Rudra Prasad Acharya, main accused of her son’s murder, is hiding there for years, Aryal said.

Besides traveling to different countries, Ganga Maya also wants to share her story to the international community through popular news media of the world.

To this end, Aryal said they were trying to approach BBC and CNN, among other major broadcasters.
