The Nepal Medical Association (NMA has urged private medical colleges to admit students based on merit.
Welcoming the Supreme Court decision, the NMA said in a statement on Saturday that the decision will be a golden opportunity to admit only talented students in medical courses. The umbrella organisation of medical doctors has also said that the implementation of the decision will ensure standard and transparency in the medical sector.
The apex court had on Wednesday ordered the medical colleges to admit students in postgraduate programmes on merit basis. A single bench of Acting Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli also ordered the colleges to follow the fee structure fixed by the TU.
Despite the court’s interim order, the Universal Medical College of Bhairahawa and the Birgunj-based National Medical College defied the apex court’s order issued after students on the merit list were turned back.
