Addressing the meeting of Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday before the commencement of the prime minister election, Oli said that the activities of ruling parties like vote rigging, booth capture, tearing ballot papers should be stopped.
Why Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had to resign before completing the local level election, Oli questioned. The first phase of local level elections was held on May 14 in 34 districts.
“It would be better if Dahal informs the Parliament about the reason behind resigning midway,” said Oli.
Talking about Bharatpur incident where ballots were allegedly torn by CPN (Maoist Centre) cadres, former Prime Minister Oli expressed his disatisfaction over conducting re-election in the ward-19 of Bharatpur Metropolis where the mishap happened and said the guilty should be booked under law.
Furthermore, Oli accused the chief election officer of Bharatpur Metropolis of assisting in validating the misconduct and also said the decision of Election Commission was not independent and impartial.
He said the tearing of ballot papers was an act of trying to ridicule and ignore the people’s command fearing possible loss in the elections. This act could be threat to democracy in the future, Oli remarked.
Rubbishing the rumours that confer anti-Madhesi tag to the UML, Oli said, “UML is a national level party, not just a regional or ethnical party. It is a common party of Madhes, hills and mountain region. All the classes and regions are embraced by the party.”
