Dalit Bikas Samiti Vice-Chairman Mukta Bahadur Mahate and Executive Director Buddhi Nepali on Saturday urged Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pande to increase the budget for the Samiti. Minister Pande, who is also the chairman of the Samiti, said his he would do the needful.
Stating that uplift of status of the Dalits was one of the agendas of his party, the CPN (Maoist Centre), when it launched a decade-long armed struggle, Minister Pande admitted that there has not been much improvement when it comes to the status of Dalits. Pande said government was coming up with a supplementary budget and would try to incorporate additional budget. He also urged the Dalit community to provide necessary suggestions on formation of constitutional commissions including Dalit Commission. Minister Pande also provided scholarships to outstanding SLC graduates from different districts.
