The Department of International Development of the United Kingdom (DFID) has agreed to provide a grant assistance of around Rs11.98 billion to implement the third phase of Nepal Health Sector Reform Programme for four and a half years.

An agreement to this end was signed between Nepal and UK on Wednesday.   

A statement released by the Ministry of Finance stated that the support will be used in restoring essential health services in areas affected by earthquake, and building and improving the quality and governance of health services nationwide.

“Out of the total support, Pound Sterling 57 million will be channelled from Red Book as financial aid to the Department of Health Services and Pound Sterling 28 million as technical

assistance. Out of the total additional support, Pound Sterling 14 million will go to the retrofitting and health infrastructure building

activities,” the statement reads.

The statement by the DFID stated that the support will help improve the health of women, children, the poor

and the marginalised in the country.

“DFID Nepal’s strategy of combining financial aid and evidence-based policy dialogue, with strong technical support on a focussed set of health and governance issues has been instrumental in supporting the Government of Nepal to deliver impressive improvements in health outcomes, particularly among women and children,” the statement reads.
