The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has urged the government and management of media houses to pay journalist as per the revised minimum wage scale. The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has urged the government and management of media houses to pay journalist as per the revised minimum wage scale.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the FNJ stated that the government and media houses were not seen sincere towards implementing the new minimum wage fixed for the journalists.
Earlier this year, the government had decided to increase the minimum wage of working journalists to Rs 19,500.
The FNJ has said that not a single media house has paid journalists as per the revised minimum wage scale. FNJ President Mahendra Bista said that the government should work to implement the Working Journalist Act and implement the new minimum wage rule without delays.
“It is taking longer than expected to implement the Act and put new wage related rules into effect due to unstable nature of government,” said Bista.
He added that the journalists were disappointed with the delay in the implementation of new wage scale.
The FNJ is also planning to hold meetings with other stakeholders to garner support to exert pressure on the government.
